About Us

Living Hope Counseling Center is a place where…

...you can openly share your struggles, whether it's a difficult past, current concerns or relationship issues

...you'll receive care from a licensed professional counselor

...the counselors are committed Christians

Our Approach

Living Hope Counseling Center is a faith-based, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) mental health agency providing professional counseling services to individuals of all ages, families and couples in Springfield, Illinois and surrounding communities. Our counselors incorporate clinical expertise, skills and education with individual patient values and concerns into their work with clients. It is our goal to provide individualized care based on the client needs and goals.

Clients who share the Christian commitment will find the goals of counseling to be consistent with increased spiritual growth and a deeper relationship with Christ.

Clients who do not have a Christian commitment will find there is no intention to impose Christian beliefs and values. The counselors will only incorporate the spiritual dimensions of their work to the extent the client desires.

Our Mission, Vision, and Statement of Faith

Our Mission

To provide professional counseling services from a faith-based perspective.

Our Vision

To empower people to find wholeness, emotional healing and Living Hope through counseling services, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Statement of Faith

Living Hope helps people regardless of their ethnicity, faith background or beliefs.  We don’t “push religion” on anyone. However, Living Hope is a Christian organization; our counselors are all active Christians.

We believe…

  • the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

  • in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of God the Father, He now is our High Priest and Advocate.

  • that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict men, regenerate the unbelieving sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

  • that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin, the race fell, inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

  • that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God.

  • in one holy, universal and apostolic Church. Its calling is to worship God and witness concerning its Head, Jesus Christ, preaching the Gospel among nations and demonstrating its commitment by compassionate service to the needs of human beings and promoting righteousness and justice.

  • that Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return in glory to raise the dead and bring salvation and judgment to completion. God will fully manifest His Kingdom when He establishes a new heaven and a new earth, in which He will be glorified forever, and exclude all evil, suffering and death.

Our History

Living Hope Counseling Center began serving the Springfield, Illinois area over 20 years ago. Established in March of 2000 by Susan Yarrington, LCPC, we had a vision to provide affordable professional counseling to those people who might not otherwise have access to these services.

From the year 2000 to 2013, we experienced slow, steady growth. Then something happened between the years 2013 and 2016. Our clients served increased by 57% and the number of sessions increased by 51%. Today, we perform over 600 counseling sessions per month, in addition to offering an expanding selection of support services, such as group coaching classes, support groups, and yoga for mental health.

Until the move to our current location on South Sixth Street in 2021, our partners at Hope Church in Springfield, Illinois graciously lent us their space, first by providing counseling rooms in their former location on Old Jacksonville Road, then by designating a home for our own office on their grounds at Lenhart Road. Yet, LHCC has always been and continues to be a separate entity from Hope Church with our own board of directors, our own budget, and our own funding sources.

Many other local churches generously support Living Hope. We also partner with local businesses to provide an Employee Assistance Program. Living Hope Counseling Center (LHCC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and your donations to us are tax-deductible. You can learn more about our current partners and opportunities to support us by visiting our Parnership Opportunities page.
